The Night before Thanksgiving

In the Olden Days, the night before Thanksgiving meant one thing….and that was

PARTY!!!!

It meant hanging out with friends or sisters; going out for Beer, Kamikazes and 10 cent wings….not necessarily in that order but you understand… right? Of course, that was 100 years ago; well more like 101 years, 5 months 90 days 1 week, 48 hours and 15 minutes ago….but who’s counting.

So even with a crazy timing thing, I set out to replicate a wing and beer night…well almost a wing and beer night…not too much of a beer night but a family wing night.

Wings - Honey Barbecue and Mild Hot Wings

Ingredients

5 lbs of chicken wings – remove tips and split wing in half
2 Tablespoons Sea Salt
2 Tablespoons Garlic Powder
2 Tablespoons of olive oil
Honey
Barbecue Sauce
Apple Cider Vinegar
Hot Sauce
Ketchup
½ of stick Butter
Chunky Blue Cheese Dressing

In a colander I rinsed my wings –  pat dry, seasoned with a pinch of sea salt  and smaller pinch of black pepper, placed both trays coat wings with the olive oil one tablespoon for each baking tray and place in the oven, cook for 30 minutes… occasionally loosen the wings so they don’t  stick.
Turn oven to 400 degrees
Split wings in half (I had two family packages… so once I cleaned and cut; I separated packages on two separate baking trays)
While the wings were roasting in the oven, I made the sauces for the wings… two sauces Honey Barbecue, and a Hot Sauce ---Nick talked me into making the hot sauce mild!

Honey Barbecue Sauce
Pour 1 cup of Honey in the pot…
1 ½ cup of barbecue sauce (I used a hickory flavor) actually I am not sure, because I pour the bottle directly in the pot and I just checked it and there’s a small amount left in the bottle.
1 tablespoon of garlic powder
2 teaspoons of butter
Heat through on low heat stirring constantly –

Mild Hot Sauce
½ cup of hot sauce
¼ cup of Apple cider vinegar
¼ cup of ketchup
2 teaspoons of butter
1 tablespoon of garlic powder
Heat through on low heat stirring constantly.

The wings on each baking tray were removed and placed in their respective sauce… I coated the wings, placed them back onto the trays and back in the oven for another 20-30 minutes.Serve with Celery Sticks and  Chunky Blue Cheese Dressing!

  1. Ah, the good old days when the night before Thanksgiving was free time with friends! It is great to have a fun night for your family the night before though. Isn't that one of the most pizzas ordered nights? And I'm sure tonight will be too for those not wanting leftovers.

Can you believe I've never made wings? Harry & Teddy are so cute!

  2. Marisa, your night before Thanksgiving treat is a truly a tasty way to celebrate those feelings of nostalgia for years gone by, (where did they go/!). Delectable and delicious wings, both recipes, I'm sure! I don't think I would have been able to enjoy just one or two of these; way too tempting!
